The Department of Art at Florida State University (FSU) seeks applications for an additional tenure-track faculty member in our Foundations area. Along with a 3/2 teaching commitment, this tenure-track Assistant Professor position includes active research and service responsibilities.

The Foundations team at Florida State University is committed to providing students with a broad base of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. There are currently three committed and versatile full-time faculty, overseeing the six classes comprising FSU’s Foundations coursework.

Applicants should be prepared to teach, oversee adjuncts/graduate instructors, and aid in curricular development in two of the following areas: 2D, 3D, Digital Foundations, Foundations Drawing and Contemporary Art Foundations.
Foundations faculty also typically teach at least one course a year outside of Foundations, tailored to faculty’s expertise.

MFA or equivalent in the visual arts and at least three years of teaching experience beyond graduate school.
Emerging or established recognition in the field at the national or international level. 
Clear record of excellence in teaching and strong communication skills. 
Understanding of a wide array of curricular and artistic methodologies. 
A commitment to foundational studies.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS: The Department of Art offers undergraduate programs (BA, BFA) in Studio Art, and a 3-year MFA program in Studio Art. Our programs encourage interdisciplinary freedom through a wide range of emerging and traditional art practices. Areas of concentration include ceramics, digital media, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Both BFA and MFA programs provide students with personal studios and exhibition spaces.

Anticipated Salary Range
RANK AND SALARY: Tenure-track Assistant Professor, 9-month appointment. Salary is competitive and negotiable, commensurate with experience.
